Complaints About Pearl Jewellery – Important Information

At Buka Jewelry, we do everything we can so that your pearl jewellery brings you joy for many years. Every piece goes through careful inspection and is supplied with a certificate of authenticity. However, it is worth knowing that pearls are natural and organic in origin and need gentle handling. If the jewellery is damaged for any of the reasons listed below, a complaint may not be accepted.

When a complaint may not be accepted

1. Incorrect care or use

• exposure to perfume, hairspray, cosmetics (including natural ones), harsh chemicals or cleaning products,
• contact with water (showering, bathing, saunas, spas, chlorinated or salt water),
• prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, frost or high humidity.

2. Mechanical damage

• scratches or abrasions on the nacre caused by contact with other jewellery or hard surfaces,
• cracks or deformation after a fall or impact,
• damage to metal parts (clasps, stud posts, chains) through rough handling.

3. Wear from normal use

• loosening or stretching of the thread on knotted necklaces and bracelets (it is advisable to have the jewellery restrung after a time),
• slight changes in the colour or lustre of pearls due to their organic origin,
• light signs of wear that are not a material defect.

4. Unprofessional intervention

• attempts at home repairs, gluing or cleaning with unsuitable products,
• alterations to the jewellery made outside an authorised service centre or jeweller.

5. Condition of jewellery sent in for a complaint

• if jewellery is heavily soiled and its upkeep has been neglected, the complaint may be rejected,
• a complaint may also not be accepted if the jewellery is not returned in its original condition (for example, parts or accessories supplied with the jewellery are missing).

6. Neglect or deliberate damage

• long-term improper storage (for example, in a bathroom exposed to humidity),
• deliberate damage or careless handling.
