Black pearls

Black pearls can be divided into two groups, black pearls with natural dark colour and dyed black pearls. The only type of black pearl that is naturally coloured black or any other dark shade is the Tahitian pearl. Most of the time when people talk about rare black pearl, they are talking about Tahitian pearl.

But you can also have freshwater black pearls. Freshwater pearls are usually colored white, cream or pink by nature. However, freshwater pearls can be dyed to achieve other shades including black.

Black Akoya pearls also do not have a natural colour which is white, cream or pinkish in Akoya pearls. Black Akoya pearls are also dyed. Dyeing is a common practice in pearl cultivation, but if you want a true black pearl, reach for a Tahitian pearl.
