Tahitian pearls - Pearl diameter - 11–11,5 mm
Have you ever heard of the rare black pearl? It was most likely a Tahitian pearl. Tahitian pearls are rightly considered to be among the most beautiful pearls in the world.
Tahitian pearls are formed in the tropical waters of French Polynesia, where the rare Pinctada margaritifera oysters live. Tahiti is the commercial hub for these pearls – which is where they get their name. However, that doesn’t mean the pearls come directly from the island of Tahiti – they are cultivated across a much wider area of Polynesia.
Contrary to popular belief, so-called “black pearls” are not truly black. Tahitian pearls display a wide range of dark shades – from light or dark grey, to deep green, blue, or rich violet. Each one is unique. Their color is completely natural, without any artificial dyeing. In natural sunlight, their exceptional luster and ability to shift color depending on the angle of the light are fully revealed.
