Pink pearls

The pink and lavender colour occurs naturally mainly in freshwater pearls. These soft pastel colours are not dyed. Very bright colours may be a sign that pink pearls have been dyed.

Naturally coloured pink pearls grow in the large pearlfish Hyriopsis cumingii in freshwater ponds in China. Each of these pearlfish can have dozens of pearls in its shell. Pink pearls therefore acquire unique colours and different shapes and sizes.
